About Mountain Forge Escape

Mountain Forge Escape is a family-run camping and glamping retreat created by Conor and Bernadette Hegarty at their home in Ardfield, West Cork. They began developing this new concept of camping in 2018, and in 2020, Mountain Forge Escape officially opened its doors.The family  have a deep love for West Cork and wanted to create a space where more people could experience the beauty of this special part of Ireland themselves.

We believe enjoying the outdoors should be simple. That’s why we’ve created different ways to experience West Cork at Mountain Forge Escape.

Set in the heart of Ardfield village and at the beginning of the Wild Atlantic Way, Mountain Forge Escape is  just four minutes from the vibrant town of Clonakilty. From beautiful beaches and coastal walks to local food and some of West Cork’s best-known destinations, there’s plenty to discover right on our doorstep.

For Conor and Bernadette, Mountain Forge Escape is about more than providing somewhere to stay. It’s about sharing the place they call home and giving guests the time and space to experience West Cork, reconnect with nature and make memories of their own.

"It is a central bas to visit beautiful towns in Southern Ireland and set in beautiful quiet countryside - the sky was so clear at night I have never seen so many stars (breathtaking). There is an indoor cafe/food outlet on site, which served pizza, chips, burger, Greek food, hot drinks and alcohol open until about 8pm which was brilliant and made the stay even better. I had the pleasure of staying for a night in this beautiful traditional Irish gypsy caravan, and it was such a lovely experience. The place is full of charm and so well managed—it truly feels like a peaceful escape into nature. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the stay even more special.

The facilities are impeccable and the food from the on-site restaurant was fantastic. We drove a few minutes to red strand beach and ad a great day. The only complaint we have is we wanted to stay longer but it was already booked out. Can't wait to come back again.
